If you are some one who experiences symptoms of OCD then it’s pointless me “pointing out” how debilitating this can be. You may experience thoughts, images, urges and compulsions that no matter how irrational they seem demand your undivided time, energy and attention. You many fear contamination, fire, being burgled and have the need for things to be perfect or a need for that “just right feeling”.

Symptoms of OCD can also be fueled by thoughts/images that are abhorrent to us and represent our “feared-self”, an aspect of us that we need to work really hard on and ward off in case it comes to life and endangers us and others or even jeopardizes our sense of morality. Of course, everyone notices unwanted intrusive thoughts/images and they can feel unpleasant but can also be let go of, but people with symptoms of OCD there’s no option but to engage with these thoughts/images and to something about them to keep themselves and others safe and can result in making their lives smaller.

Ultimately only you know how much your OCD symptoms occupy your day to day life and please know that you can seek help, part of which can be therapy.
